Who we are

Tom Bass Sculpture Studio School (TBSSS) has a long history of working with a range of clients to realise commissioned sculptures.  Working out of his own Studio and later Tom Bass Sculpture Studio, our founder Tom Bass AM’s first commission was completed in 1948 Jack Earth - Comfort Hill, Sutton Forest, NSW. After this, Bass worked on a total of 66 commissioned sculptures during his life.

After TBSSS was established, students and sculptors working in the Studio were mentored by Tom, helping him and working collaboratively on commissioned works. This tradition has continued, even after Tom’s death. Our Studio sculptors have worked on many projects with local councils, schools, churches, organisations and private individuals.

What we offer

At TBSSS we offer a professional client service to those wishing to commission a unique sculpture. We can either:

  1. Facilitate contact with sculptors, established and emerging, with whom the client can negotiate a proposal from beginning to completion.  A small agent fee will be charged.

  2. Manage commissions, facilitating the relationship between clients and sculptors, helping both parties achieve the best results.  This process incurs a management fee which is paid directly into our programs supporting emerging artists.

We specialise in portraits, figurative work, memorial sculptures, religious iconography, and contemporary sculpture.  For the end product we specialise most commonly in plaster, bronze, stone or wire works.

Our sculptors have been trained through TBSSS and are also teachers, or emerging artists. Artists we recommend include:

Wendy Black
Michael Christie
Christine Crimmins
Karen Alexander
Monica Scarabolotti
Margo Hoekstra
BJ Kim
Daniel Dominguez
Bernice Lowe
Jules Jones
Helen Alajajian
Arielle Morris
